Stop Eating It
Believing a lie about our Father’s love enslaves us to a dull, striving, impotent existence. It’s bad hamburguesa. It distorts reality. For goodness’ sake, stop eating it!
The fact is, I can’t know who I am until I know my Father. And if I am misguided regarding His nature, I live unsure regarding mine. If I relate to Him like He has love in one hand and a Skilsaw in the other, I live insecure, enslaved to a controlling tyrant. If I believe my Father instigates or blesses the use of Skilsaws, then the truth of my identity as His son is greatly limited to my misunderstanding of His nature. If I believe I am to slave for Him, then my freedom as a son or daughter is greatly hindered.
I once heard a great analogy that best describes this kind of slavery. Let’s say I have a million dollars in my bank account but I’m only aware of a thousand. If that’s the case, then I will live in the limitation of the thousand. Every decision I make will be restricted to the lie that I only have a thousand bucks. My needs will go unmet, my family’s needs will go unmet, and giving becomes virtually nonexistent. I live broke and powerless.
If I don’t know the truth, I become a slave to the lie. If I believe my heavenly Father is not always good, that sometimes He allows bad things to happen to people to get their attention, then I live enslaved to that lie. Therefore, when someone is sick, I can’t pray with faith, authority, and power because maybe God is allowing the sickness. When someone is broke, I have to make sure it isn’t God’s will before giving. When someone is emotionally bound, I am forced to check in with God before setting him or her free. To be honest, if my heavenly Father is not always good, then I don’t want any part of Him.
